Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we were forced to cancel our 3rd annual fundraiser. In lieu of an in person event, we are reaching out virtually to those engaged in our mission to ask for your continued support.

2020 Year in Review

2020 marks the third year of Music Across Borders and to say it has been a trying one would be an understatement. This year has challenged our organization in new ways but I could not be more proud of what we have accomplished.

In March St. Mary Kevin was forced to cancel the school year due to the pandemic. Students from the school and our teachers from our partners at the Kampala School of Music were sent home for the year. However, our relationship with the community and the school has continued throughout the summer months and we are now gearing up for a new school year of lessons.

Here at home the pandemic has afforded us the time to work as a group to solidify our mission to connect and empower youth through the art of music. We were approached by our friends at Art As Mentorship to be a sponsor of their Rebel Song Academy initiative, an immersive multi-week course for young songwriters. This program is typically offered in person to young songwriters in the Kansas City Metro area, but in 2020 our organization helped Art as Mentorship stand up a virtual Academy to connect songwriters to Grammy winning Latinx artists with weekly virtual workshops. Music Across Borders also expanded our network with local nonprofit organizations such as the InterUrban Arthouse and the Kauffman Foundation.

As we turn our focus to next year, we wanted to reach out to you once again and ask for your support. We have an exciting year planned with our continued support of Strings For Uganda and building our network in the Kansas City area. In 2021, we aim to grow our network of music educators with an eye towards creating a platform for those educators to collaborate. Our relationship with Art As Mentorship will continue to grow with joint events throughout the year as we continue our community engagement.

While we are unable to celebrate the great year Music Across Borders has with you in person, we hope that this email reminds you of the important work we are doing. Please consider donating to our mission at
